Software

Using SoberRead from other software

You can ask for a free Snapshot, check when a report is ready, and start a paid order, from software you run. A person still approves the card payment on Stripe. Prices include VAT.

Get a key

Send the email address that should receive the report. We reply with a key, once, in the response. If email is switched on, we also send a copy. Keep the key private. Three keys per email address per day. Later calls send it as Authorization: Bearer, or in the X-Api-Key header.

curl -s https://soberread.com/api/v1/keys \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -d '{"email":"founder@example.com"}'

Ask for a Snapshot

Send the product link, the email, and, if you want, a note. Also tell us in a line what isn’t working, and confirm that you own or run the product and that we can start straight away. That is the same as the form. One Snapshot per email address per day. We store the same record as the form, and we email a confirmation. The response includes a reference and a secret token. Keep the token. You need it to check the request.

curl -s https://soberread.com/api/v1/snapshots \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -H 'authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY' \
  -d '{
    "productUrl": "https://example.com",
    "email": "founder@example.com",
    "note": "Optional. A line about the product.",
    "problem": "People try it and don’t come back.",
    "ownsProduct": true,
    "expressConsent": true
  }'

Check a request

A Snapshot reference is the long id. An order reference starts with SR-. Send the key and the token. When the report has been emailed, the response includes a download link.

curl -s https://soberread.com/api/v1/requests/SR-XXXXXXXX \
  -H 'authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY' \
  -H 'x-request-token: YOUR_TOKEN'

Download a report

The download link works once we have sent the report. It carries the token, so treat the link as private. One file comes back as the file. A Teardown comes back as a list, because there is a full report and a one-page summary. If a file is too large to keep here, it is still in the email.

Order a Teardown

Ask for teardown (£49.99 including VAT) or teardown_plus (£79.99 including VAT). The response is a Stripe checkout link. A person opens it and pays. We don’t see the card number. Nothing is charged until that page is paid. The same email address can start each plan once a day. If you send a payment token the buyer has already approved, we use it only when that way of paying is switched on. If it is off, we refuse the call and nothing is charged. Leave the token out to get the checkout link. When it is on, also send an Idempotency-Key header so a repeat does not charge twice. When VAT is being calculated, also send the billing country. The price stays £49.99 or £79.99, with the VAT inside it. If we can’t calculate that VAT, we don’t take the payment.

curl -s https://soberread.com/api/v1/orders \
  -H 'content-type: application/json' \
  -H 'authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY' \
  -d '{
    "planId": "teardown",
    "productUrl": "https://example.com",
    "email": "founder@example.com",
    "ownsProduct": true,
    "expressConsent": true
  }'

Teardown+ also needs read-only access. The steps are on the access guides.

Limits

Each key can make 60 requests an hour, unless that number has been changed. A second Snapshot from the same email address on the same day is refused, the same as the form. Leave the extra field named soberread_hp empty. If it is filled in, we ignore the request.

Connect an assistant

Claude Desktop, Cursor and ChatGPT can use the same key. The address is https://soberread.com/mcp. Put the key in an Authorization header, as Bearer. The assistant can ask for a Snapshot, check a request, download a report, list the prices, and start a Teardown. A person still pays on the checkout page. Prices include VAT.

Add this to claude_desktop_config.json, then restart Claude Desktop.
